Joy's is a unique business in Bulwark, Chepstow situated where the old Post Office was. It is owned by Kate Lewis, a Registered Nurse, who is also the Managing Director of ACI Training and Consultancy Ltd, a health and social care training company. We offer a little bit of respite to the local community and surrounding areas.

Joy's is named after Kate's mum, who has inspired the concept of giving the gift of time. "My mum has always been an inspiration to me. She is a very caring individual and all through our childhood I remember her giving counsel to those with problems offering endless cups of tea and a chat. To this day she still bakes her famous Welsh Cakes and scones, and distributes them to her neighbours and friends in her neighbourhood." Research has shown that social isolation is the main condition that people suffer from in the UK resulting in anxiety and depression.

Not only are we a gift and sweet shop...

... that donates any profits to our chosen charity for 2016/2017 the Alzheimers Society, but every afternoon between 2pm and 4pm we offer FREE craft/activity sessions for up to 4 people. We have a caring and comfortable environment for people to come along and have a cuppa and a chat and to join in the session if they wish to.

We have managed through these sessions to encourage people with medical conditions such as Dementia to re-uptake hobbies such as painting and knitting. One of the ladies who visits has started drawing again after months of not picking up a pencil. Another lady who has Alzheimer's Disease and is usually housebound, comes in once a week for a couple of hours to socialise and has started knitting again. it also gives her daughter a couple of hours of "me" time, safe in the knowledge that Mum is being well cared for.

Our services are absolutely FREE and supported by employed qualified carers and registered nurses. However, we do only have 4 spaces each afternoon Monday to Friday between 2pm and 4pm which must be booked in advance.

We ask that a registration form and assessment form are completed so that we are certain we can accommodate each individual's needs, wishes and preferences.

  • Train the trainer in basic life support and manual handlingTrain the trainer in basic life support and manual handling

  • Phlebotomy training

  • Occupational health screening - including fitness to work certificates for staff demonstrating they are up to date with all their immunisations and also an occupational health advisory service. We also provide sickness absence management and case management for businesses. We are SEQOHS accredited for this service.

  • Consultancy - clinical complaints handling services for nursing recruitment agencies, nurse interview services for agencies, roaming compliance where we can visit doctors and nurses in the workplace to perform occupational health, interviews, training etc, policies and procedures.

In 2015 we trained over 5,000 doctors, nurses and healthcare assistants in their mandatory training requirements for working in the NHS.
